It was a Tuesday at 8am, the first day of school for our 2022 school year and I didn't realize it then – but it wasn't going as well as I thought. As a young kid, I thought it was neat that my older brother (Paul) would stand with me at the bus stop, getting ready to go to school. Now, he didn't sit with me on the bus . . . that wouldn't be cool and I was okay with that. I knew then his nickname (from our older brothers) was Moochie, and I thought he got that from the Spin & Marty TV show they use to watch. I came to realize it was more of a food related, then a TV related type of thing (but I was a kid back then – I could be wrong). |
So then, per the above – what can kids learn from this? When you are an only child in a family, you are blazing your own trail in life. But, if you are one of two or more kids, you have friends for life – if you appreciate and respect each other (and yes, sometimes forgiveness is needed now and then as life challenges unfold). Therefore, if you can – be the one who helps, and when needed, forgives (aka, always be honorable).
“Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”
Ephesians 4:32

I saw this picture and words from our daughter after I posted the above words. Yes, in the title for today's post I had the words "Tough Tuesday" and when I wrote those initially, I was thinking from a kid's mindset . . . that sometimes that going back to school after a summer of fun, could be tough. Our daughter's words reminded me, that sadly in today's world, there are added sadness's for kids, parents and teachers too. Violence against kids in any sense is unacceptable. My hope is that we find ways to address discrimination, bullying and violence against kids and by kids - because if we can solve that problem, the ripple affect to our broader society is goodness. And that is why I responded to our daughter's post with this: Mom & I love this pic and your words - yes, Uvalde and all the other schools where there have been shootings, need to be remembered. They all are in our thoughts & prayers and where we best can as a country, we need actions pursued to keep all kids safe. |
